10. Helper verbs & the potential helper verb

• There is no such thing as conjugation in Japanese.
• In place of conjugation, you instead append helper verbs to the four verb stems.

The potential helper verb

• る (godan potential)
• られる (ichidan potential)
• する is an exception, as it has the potential form できる.
• くる is an exception, as it has the potential form こられる.
• 聞ける can also be in the form 聞こえる. Both are the same, just that former is the regular version and the latter is irregular.
