One may object that if consciousness is not physical, it would be an exception to everything else in the universe. The premise behind this is that nothing can have distinct nature—to be distinguishable would make something an exception to everything else in the universe. This same objection would therefore apply to spoons, if a spoon has a distinct nature, would that not make them an exception to everything else in the universe?1
