In order to use an adjective as a target, remove the い ending and replace it with く.1

ãĒる is a verb meaning to become. In this case it is placed into the past tense with the ãŖãŸ form, changing the meaning to became.

įžŽã—ã„ is an adjective meaning beautiful, it is altered by removing the い ending and replacing it with く. This makes it suitable for use as a target.
